Friction welding of reinforcement bars for concrete structures is permitted for Diameters from 6 to 50 mm rebar-to-rebar or to other steel parts according to EN ISO 17660-1 of December 2006. Part 1 of this standard covers structural welds, and Part 2 covers non-structural welds.This Standard has superseeded the old DIN 4099.
The friction stud welding machines SF15 are designed for automatically welding T plates to rebars using a mechanised materials handling system. Such T plate bars are used for beam cages of concrete structures.
All welding processes need to be qualified by issuing a “WPS” (Welding Procedure Specification) and “PQR” (Procedure Qualification Record). The parts to be welded and to be tested are, if applicable, described in Table 4 of EN ISO 17660-1. The approval needs to be obtained according to EN ISO 15620. For serial production the tests have to be repeated in specified intervals of less than three months.
