The batteries in these vehicles consist of several cells that have to be connected in series to obtain the desired high voltage. The task is to connect the minus pole made of copper with the plus pole made of aluminium. This requires special welding processes at the battery manufacturer because these materials cannot be welded with conventional fusion welding processes.

Bimetal cable lugs are incrasingly used for aluminium cables. These consist of aluminium in the area surrounding the strands in order to prevent corrosion in the area of the crimped or soldered package of strands. However, since aluminium is not sufficiently creep-resistant under long-term stress, the eye in the area of the screw connection with other components is normally made of copper.
